Tank failure reported early Saturday at Chesapeake well in the Eagle Ford Shale field
Chesapeake Energy Corp. said Monday it is investigating a tank failure early Saturday at one of its producing locations in Brazos County, Texas.
A boom believed to have been related to the failure reportedly was heard by people within 10 miles of the production site’s location.
The tank failure is the second incident involving a well operated by Chesapeake within the general area.
A fire on Jan. 29 at a well owned by Chesapeake happened in neighboring Burleson County within the same field. It happened as a crew conducted workover operations at that location. The accident immediately claimed the life of one person and hurt three others, two of whom have since died.
As for the Brazos County incident Saturday, it appears that only production equipment was affected.
“No fire occurred, and no injuries have been reported,” Gordon Pennoyer, Chesapeake’s spokesman, said on Monday. “The cause of the incident is under investigation.”
