OU softball: No. 3 Sooners beat Nevada 9-3 in season opener

Sooners win opener

Kinzie Hansen and Rylie Boone each at two hits Thursday night to help No. 3-ranked Oklahoma to a 9-3 softball win over Nevada at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge in Mexico.

Hansen led Sooner batters with four RBI in the season opener. Boone scored two runs as OU blew open the game with five runs in sixth inning.

Shannon Saile got the start in the circle and pitched five innings. She gave up one run on three hits and struck out nine.

OU next plays 12:30 p.m. Friday against Long Beach.

MLB Network to interview Hinch

MLB Network will air an exclusive interview with former Houston Astros manager and Midwest City High School star A.J. Hinch at 5 p.m. Friday. Tom Verducci talked to Hinch this week, and that interview will be on the MLB Tonight show. Hinch was fired by the Astros a few weeks ago after Major League Baseball's investigation revealed the American League team stole signs during the 2017 and 2018 seasons. Hinch was released by the Astros shortly after MLB suspended the former catcher for one season.

Cowboys are fourth

The Oklahoma State men's golf team was in fourth place after Day 1 of the Amer Ari Invitational in Waikoloa, Hawaii, on Thursday at the Kings Course.

The Cowboys shot 275 for a team and were two strokes behind co-leaders Texas and Georgia. Arizona State was in third place, one shot shy of the Longhorns and Bulldogs.

Georgia Tech’s Tyler Strafaci led the individual race with an 8-under 64. Aman Gupta of OSU was tied for second with Texas' Cole Hammer at 7-under 65.

No. 1 Stars win again

Top-ranked Oklahoma City University improved to 21-0 Thursday with its 82-54 women's basketball victory over Southwest Assemblies of God (Texas) at Abe Lemons Arena.

Mallory Lockhart had 18 points for OCU. Brennyn Seagler added 17 points and 10 rebounds.
