High school boys basketball: El Reno holds on to beat Piedmont 44-38

EL RENO — With a 2-point lead and 18 seconds left, Darius Moore took the ball down the floor and laid it up, scoring through the foul. Moore sealed the win converting on the and-1 try.

“The key word is just resilience,” said El Reno coach Kale Simon. “I think they cut it to 1 or 2 and I think we had a chance to fold and not perform or be resilient and I think our guys made enough plays late to win.”

The game was a battle back-and-forth. The halftime score separated the two teams by just 4 points. However, El Reno was able to hold on to avenge a December loss to Piedmont Tuesday night with a 44-38 win at Jenks Simmons Fieldhouse.

Coming into the game, Simon said the game plan was to use their athleticism and to take away the passing lanes and speed up the game.

With the win, El Reno (9-9) snapped a 3-game losing streak.
