The Oklahoma State Department of Health announced Wednesday the testing of two individuals in Oklahoma for coronavirus is ongoing and results will be in soon.

Commissioner of Health Gary Cox said testing is pending of two individuals who fit the symptoms and had traveled to Wuhan, China, in the past two weeks. Cox said he expects results back within the next 24 to 36 hours.

"As far as the risk factors for Oklahomans, it's a low risk for any single individual currently in Oklahoma," Cox said. "We don't want Oklahoma to be fearful, but we are taking it seriously as a matter of public health."

The names of the individuals tested, or any other information about them, were not released.

State Epidimeologist Laurence Burnsed said both individuals were being isolated in their homes and people they came into contact with since returning from China have been alerted.

If one or both of the individuals tests positive, Cox said treatment will depend on the severity of their symptoms.

"It's on the case-by-case basis," Cox said "Not everybody who gets infected will develop severe symptoms.

"Right now there is no specific treatment for the novel coronavirus."

Cox also stressed that just because a person is under investigation for the disease, which has currently infected more than 6,000 people in China and killed at least 130, does not mean they have coronavirus.

Five people in the U.S. have tested positive for the disease with 110 more being investigated in 26 states.
