Sooners' Cade Cavalli, Cowboys' Kaden Polcovich and Bryce Osmond earn preseason All-Big 12 baseball honors

State schools dominated the preseason All-Big 12 honors released Wednesday.

OU right-handed pitcher Cade Cavalli was named the conference's Preseason Pitcher of the Year while OSU's Kaden Polcovich was named Preseason Newcomer of the Year while right-handed pitcher Bryce Osmond was named Preseason Freshman of the Year.

The only preseason individual award winner not from OU or OSU was Baylor infielder Nick Loftin, was was named Preseason Player of the Year.

The selections were picked by a vote of the league's coaches.

Cavalli was 5-3 with a 3.28 ERA as a sophomore last season. He had 59 strikeouts in 60 1/3 innings. He also hit .319 with four home runs and 17 RBIs, primarily in a designated hitter role on days he wasn't pitching.

Polcovich, a versatile infielder who can also play the outfield, hit .273 with 12 home runs and 38 RBIs for Northwest Florida State last season.

Osmond, from Jenks, was the No. 53 overall prospect in 2019 by MLB Pipeline and led the Trojans to the Class 6A semifinals with a 7-1 record with a 1.64 ERA and 89 strikeouts in 51 innings.

On the Preseason All-Big 12 team, OU had four representatives while the Cowboys had one.

The Sooners were represented by catcher Brady Lindsly, left-handed pitcher Levi Prater, right-handed pitcher Jason Ruffcorn and Cavalli.

Oklahoma State outfielder Carson McCusker made the  team as well.     

The league's preseason poll will be released Thursday.
