High school football: Jonathan Brown named Tulsa Washington head coach, Brad Calip named assistant head coach at Owasso

Tulsa Booker T. Washington will have a familiar face roaming the sidelines as its new head coach next season.

Jonathan Brown, who was an All-State defensive lineman and starred at Tennessee before a 13-year career in professional football, will take over as the Hornets' head coach, Tulsa Public Schools announced Monday. Brown replaces Brad Calip, who resigned after four seasons as football coach and athletic director to become Owasso's assistant head coach on Bill Blankenship's staff.

Brown spent seven seasons as an assistant at Tulsa Washington, and he was its defensive coordinator.

Calip went 32-15 during his time leading the program, guiding the Hornets to a 12-1 record and Class 6A-II state championship during the 2017 season.
