High school cross country: Broken Arrow’s Payton Hinkle named Gatorade Oklahoma Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year
Payton Hinkle was named Monday the 2019-20 Gatorade Oklahoma Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year.
Hinkle, a sophomore at Broken Arrow, won the 2019 Class 6A state title with a time of 18 minutes, three seconds. The second-place finisher was 27 seconds behind.
Hinkle is the first girls cross country runner from Broken Arrow to win the award, which recognizes athletic excellence, academic success and exemplary character.
Hinkle, who has a 4.29 grade-point average, is now a finalist for the Gatorade National Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year award. The winner will be announced next month.
