NASHVILLE, Tennessee - Norman resident Toby Keith, former Owasso resident Trisha Yearwood, Willie Nelson, Jamey Johnson, Kris Kristofferson and more will perform as part of "King of the Road," an all-star concert event celebrating the late, great songwriter Roger Miller.

Cake, Wynonna, Rodney Crowell, Chris Janson, Lee Ann Womack, Larry Gatlin, The War and Treaty and more also will play the March 22 event at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry House.

Born in Fort Worth, Texas, Miller grew up on a farm outside Erick. With his way with words, brilliant sense of humor and smooth drawl, he won 11 Grammy Awards from 1965 to 1966. He wrote and recorded several songs and voiced the rooster troubadour character in Disney's 1973 animated retelling of "Robin Hood." In 1985, he received a Tony Award for his score for "Big River," a Broadway musical based on Mark Twain’s "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn."

Miller's enduring hits include “King of the Road,” “Engine Engine #9,” “Kansas City Star,” “Dang Me,” “You Can't Roller Skate in a Buffalo Herd,” “England Swings” and “Do-Wacka-Do.”

He died of cancer in 1992 at the age of 56. Three years later, he was inducted posthumously into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Tickets to the Nashville concert go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at and the Opry House Box Office.

A portion of the proceeds will go to Thistle Farms, a nonprofit social enterprise, based in Nashville, dedicated to helping women survivors recover and heal from trafficking, prostitution, and addiction. For more information, go to
