Recap: Thunder 120, Magic 114 'Throw the ball up. I’m going to go get it.': Nerlens Noel helps Thunder dunk its way past Magic Dennis Schroder ties season high in points and assists against Magic

The Thunder beat the Magic 120-114 Wednesday night in Orlando to move to a season-high seven games above .500.

Here are five takeaways from the game:

Schroder strengthens sixth-man campaign

Thunder point guard Dennis Schroder was scoreless in the first quarter, but his offensive outbursts can happen in a flash.

Schroder finished with 31 points, tying his season high. He shot 13-of-18 overall and 3-of-4 from 3-point range. He drained a dagger jumper with 32 seconds left. It put OKC ahead 117-111.

Schroder barely missed a double-double with nine assists.

Paul’s new Lob City partner

Chris Paul and Nerlens Noel connected on four alley-oops. Schroder found Noel for two more lobs.

Noel, starting in place of the injured Steven Adams, scored 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting.

Good offense beats good defense

The Magic entered the night with the sixth-best defensive rating in the NBA.

The Thunder seemed unbothered.

OKC shot 61 percent from the field and 47 percent from 3-point range.

Reserve center Mike Muscala shot 5-of-6 with four 3-pointers, tying his career high.

Dort gets second start

Luguentz Dort’s defense is earning him big minutes with Terrance Ferguson out.

The undrafted rookie logged his second-career start Wednesday night. After playing a leading role in James Harden’s 9-of-29 shooting line Monday night, Dort was the primary defender on Evan Fournier.

Fournier, the Magic’s leading scorer at 19.1 points per game, was limited to 12 points on 5-of-12 shooting. He was 1-of-6 behind the arc.

Dort’s issue on defense is a high foul rate — not surprising for a rookie. He had four fouls in 26 minutes, including one in the third quarter that led to a four-point play for Terrence Ross.

Adams ruled out

Steven Adams was a game-time decision, but a left ankle sprain kept him out.

Adams was injured two minutes into the game Monday at Houston when Rockets center Clint Capela landed on Adams. Both took a hard fall after going up for a rebound.

Ferguson was out for personal reasons. It was his third consecutive missed game.

Reserve guard Abdel Nader missed a fifth consecutive game due to a left ankle sprain.
