High school football: Shannon Watford resigns at Douglass

Shannon Watford has resigned after two seasons at Douglass.

Watford confirmed with The Oklahoman that he stepped down Tuesday from coaching the Trojans. Douglass went 0-10 this season and was 1-19 under Watford.

"I'm just going to pursue some new opportunities," Watford said.

Watford has been known to turn programs around. He built Hennessey into a state title contender, winning back-to-back Class 2A title in 2011-12. He has been an assistant at Del City and El Reno and had stints with Prague, Purcell, Star Spencer and Chickasha.

Douglass joins Star Spencer as Oklahoma City schools that will have new coaches roaming the sidelines in 2020.
