High school girls basketball: Del City’s uses late run to top El Reno

DEL CITY – Janazya Fasley grabbed the rebound, gave a pump fake to throw off a defender and rose for an easy layup.

The forward on Del City’s girls basketball team took over in the fourth quarter, as the Class 5A Eagles scored the final nine points to top No. 8 El Reno 53-43 on Tuesday at John Smith Fieldhouse. Fasley‘s five points all came during that stretch.

The back-and-forth contest featured big runs from both teams, though Del City owned a point advantage going to the fourth quarter after trailing by two at halftime.

The Eagles (6-5) forced 19 El Reno turnovers. BB Polk led Del City with 14 points, while El Reno’s Ashlyn Evans-Thompson paced all scorers with 18 points.

Del City’s AJ Smithers, who finished with nine points, left the game in the third quarter with an ankle injury after missing a layup and coming down on a defender’s shoe.
