Nearly $2.5 million in funds from the state’s largest private scholarship program is now available to Oklahoma high-school and college students.

The Oklahoma City Community Foundation offers more than 150 opportunities for students in Central Oklahoma and across the state. Applications are open for students to access the scholarship funds.

The foundation collected almost $2.5 million through private donor contributions, according to a foundation news release.

“Each year, we award scholarships to more than 800 students,” foundation President Nancy Anthony said in the release. “Through the support of our donors, the community foundation has established itself as the place to find scholarships in Oklahoma.”

The foundation’s online application system, at occf.academicworks.com, places students in consideration for scholarship programs. The system evaluates each application to match students with the most appropriate scholarships.

The average scholarship is $2,000, according to the news release.

Some funds are awarded for academic achievement while others target community service, first-generation college students, attendance at specific colleges or universities, and certain fields of study.

“Our scholarship programs are among the most fulfilling things we do,” Anthony said. “We are grateful to our many benefactors, who share the same value for education and the same enthusiasm for the future of our state.”

The Oklahoma City Community Foundation gave nearly $42.9 million in total grants and distributions in Fiscal Year 2019 with more than 1,800 funds for various charitable causes. The foundation reported $33.74 million in contributions and nearly $1.18 billion in total assets last fiscal year.
