Grant to fund lacrosse at Harding Charter Preparatory High School
Harding Charter Preparatory High School has been awarded a 2020 First Stick Grant from the U.S. Lacrosse organization. The grant will provide $10,500 to build a lacrosse program for students and allow Harding Charter Prep to buy equipment for 20 field players and one goalie.
Students also will become participants in the U.S. Lacrosse 100 percent Membership Program. The school received complimentary U.S. Lacrosse membership for up to two adult coaches and up to 20 new youth or high school players.
Harding Charter Prep will use the former football field, which is transitioning to a soccer field, for practice and games, athletic director Joe Hughes said.
“It is our hope to start a male team this spring and hopefully be able to start a female team next year,” Hughes said.
With the addition of lacrosse, Harding Charter Prep now will offer 14 sport programs, Hughes said.
