Thunder to underwrite admission to Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum once a month in 2020
On the 25th of each month this year, the Thunder will underwrite admission to the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum.
When the Thunder unveiled its ‘City Edition’ uniforms in July, it announced its plan to fund free admission once a month in 2020. But the team revealed more details on Wednesday.
Jan. 25 will be the first date that the Thunder will underwrite admission to the museum. On the 25th of each month, visitors will also receive a Thunder wristband and a card explaining the symbolic elements in the ‘City’ uniforms. The uniforms honor those affected by the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building.
“Being able to provide admission to the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum is a direct way that we can assist with furthering the museum’s focus on education, reflection and healing,” Thunder vice president of community relations Christine Berney said in a team release. “Our hope is that these days will bring in guests who may not otherwise have the chance to visit the grounds and museum, and that they learn something new to share with their community.”
The Thunder will debut its ‘City’ uniforms Thursday, when OKC faces Houston at Chesapeake Energy Arena. OKC is scheduled to wear its ‘City’ jerseys 10 times this season: once in January, twice in February, three times in March and four times in April. April 19 marks the 25-year anniversary of the bombing.
'City Edition' uniform schedule:
Jan. 9 vs. Houston
Feb. 9 vs. Boston
Feb. 21 vs. Denver
March 6 at New York
March 15 at Washington
March 26 vs. Charlotte
April 1 vs. Phoenix
April 7 vs. Brooklyn
April 10 vs. New York
April 13 vs. Utah.
