OSU football: Kolby Harvell-Peel to miss Texas Bowl with knee injury

HOUSTON — Oklahoma State will be without one of its best defensive players in the Texas Bowl, coach Mike Gundy said Thursday.

Safety Kolby Harvell-Peel, who grew up not far from the Texas A&M campus in College Station, will not play when the No. 25 Cowboys face the Aggies at 5:45 p.m. Friday at NRG Stadium.

Harvell-Peel, a true sophomore, was voted by the team as the defensive MVP. He was a first-team All-Big 12 defensive back by the coaches and the Associated Press.

Harvell-Peel suffered a knee injury on the final play of the Cowboys’ loss to Oklahoma Nov. 30, sources told The Oklahoman.

OSU also will be without safety Tre Sterling for the first half Friday as he serves the final part of his suspension for a targeting penalty against OU.

Jason Taylor II, a redshirt freshman from Carl Albert, and sophomore Tanner McCalister are the players likely to enter the starting lineup.

"He's been a good leader for us," Gundy said. "He's been quiet this year. He's practice really hard. He goes out and does his job. And it's unfortunate that he can't play in the game."
