The Jesus House is seeking donations for its annual Christmas food basket and toy distribution.

The Oklahoma City nonprofit is asking members of the community to assist Oklahomans in need this Christmas by donating new, unwrapped toys and food to fill food baskets.

“The heart of our mission is to help our neighbors, and we feel that it is especially important around the holidays when many families are struggling,” Mike Bateman, Jesus House executive director, said in a news release.

He said the Thanksgiving food basket distribution aided 1,536 families.

Food baskets will be distributed to needy families beginning at 8 a.m. Dec. 20. Those coming to Jesus House seeking a food basket will be asked to provide identification and proof of residential address, such as a utility bill.

Volunteers will be needed to assist with wrapping toys on Dec. 18. The toys will be given out to families in low-income neighborhoods on Christmas Eve. Jesus House is still looking for volunteers to help with food basket distribution.

Toy and food donations may be dropped off from 8 am. to 7 p.m. seven days a week at the Jesus House, 1335 W Sheridan. Food items sought include: frozen turkeys or hams, boxed stuffing mix, chicken broth, turkey or chicken gravy mix, instant mashed potatoes, canned cranberries or cranberry sauce, canned yams, canned green beans, canned peas, canned corn, dessert mixes and pie fillings. Monetary donations are also accepted. Check should include "Christmas toys" or "Christmas food baskets" in the memo line.
