Oklahoma City church plans Advent mission, concert event
The Vigil Project, a contemporary Christian band, will perform as part of an Advent mission and concert event set for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 17 at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 4201 S McKinley.
Sister Maria Faulkner, founder of the Gospel of Life Disciples and Dwellings (called GOLD), said the event will feature live music, inspirational words from guest speakers and prayer. Light refreshments will be served afterward. GOLD offers residential housing for older adults who have little or no family to care for them, particularly near the end of their lives.
She said the event is fitting for Advent, the four weeks before Christmas.
"It's just a way for people to center on the real preparation for Christmas — to welcome Christ in our hearts, our homes and our local community in a meaningful way," she said. "We are doing it as a spiritual service for the community."
Faulkner said the event is not a fundraiser but donations will be accepted to help pay the performers.
"It's meant to be a Christmas gift for everyone, to treat themselves and to enjoy the peace of Christ in this busy, busy world," she said.
