Former Guthrie, Booker T. football stars up for Division II Player of the Year
Former Guthrie star L'liott Curry and Tulsa Booker T. Washington's Tariq Bitson are two of the 36 college athletes from across the country nominated for the Harlon Hill Award, which is given to Division II's football Player of the Year.
Oklahoma Baptist quarterback Preston Haire is also on the list.
Curry was named The Oklahoman's Big All-City Defensive Player of the Year in 2014. He started his career at Central Oklahoma but is now at Henderson State in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. He has 80 receptions for 1,102 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Bitson, a redshirt junior at Adams State in Alamosa, Colorado, has caught 63 passes for 1,355 yards and 11 scores. He had three games this season with at least 10 receptions.
The 36 initial candidates will be placed on regional ballots and the top two players from each of the four NCAA regions will advance to the national ballot when regional voting concludes on Monday.
The winner of the 2019 award will be announced on Friday, Dec. 20 and the winner will be honored at the Little Rock Touchdown Club awards banquet on Jan.9, 2020.
