EDMOND — The University of Central Oklahoma has been designated a Bicycle-Friendly University at the bronze level by the League of American Bicyclists, acknowledging UCO’s efforts in creating an exceptional environment for biking, a news release stated.

UCO is one of 208 institutions recognized by the organization in 47 states and Washington, D.C.

“This is the first time UCO has been awarded the bronze level Bicycle Friendly University award,” said Jennifer Redwine, interim director for UCO’s Transportation and Parking Services.

“We are very excited UCO has received this recognition and we are dedicated to continue providing and promoting alternative transportation on campus.”

UCO encourages bicycling by providing amenities such as free-to-use bicycle repair stations, free bicycle registration for personal bikes and the Bum-A-Bike program, which allows the UCO community to “bum” a bike free of charge from the university.
