High school football: 5th-string QB Bryson Ford accounts for 7 TDs in Southwest Covenant's win against Webbers Falls

Southwest Covenant sophomore Bryson Ford hadn't taken a snap at quarterback until Friday.

That didn't matter. he was stellar, completing 15-of-19 passes for 255 yards and six touchdowns while rushing for 37 yards and a score. On defense, he finished with eight tackles, including two for loss in The Patriots' 50-18 win against Webbers Falls in the first round of the Class C playoffs.

Southwest Covenant star senior Ben Webb tore his anterior cruciate ligament and partially tore his medial collateral ligament in Week 10, plus with injuries to other backups throughout the season, Ford was pushed into the starting role in the playoffs. And he shined.

"I just told him he had to manage the game," Patriots' coach Trey Cloud said. "He did really well."

Southwest Covenant (9-0) will host a quarterfinal game Friday when Timberlake (8-3) travels to Yukon for a 7 p.m. kick.
