BLOOM WHERE YOU WERE PLANTED
Luncheon: Meg Salyer received the James R. Tolbert III Crystal Orchid Award at the Orchids in October luncheon in a tent on the Devon Great Lawn of the Myriad Gardens. Registration was in the Park House Event Center. Myriad Gardens Foundation members were hosts.
A little about Meg: The honoree was chosen for her impact in the progress and success of Myriad Botanical Gardens. She is on the Foundation board, as well as many community boards and retired from City Council’s Ward 6 in April. She has led Accel Financial Staffing for 24 years and is principal of Broadway Realty.
Décor: Tall white and purple orchids and succulents in ceramic vases were on the tables and were arranged by Calvert Plants Interiors. Lunch was served by Kam’s Kookery.
Program: Chris Fleming, president of the Myriad Gardens Foundation community board, opened the event, and Maureen Heffernan, executive director and CEO of Park Management, spoke about Salyer’s commitment to the Myriad Gardens as a volunteer and as city councilwoman. Marnie Taylor, executive director of the Center for Non-profits, talked about her long-time friend and presented her the award. Letters of appreciation for Salyer were projected on a screen during lunch and a Champagne toast was made in her honor.
HONORING SUSAN AND STEVE
Occasion: Susan Kelly and Steve Kilburn, of Denver, were honored at parties in Dune Allen Beach, Florida, prior to their wedding at The Vue, which overlooked the Gulf of Mexico and the beach. A welcome dinner was held. Hosts were the bride’s parents, Lynn and Mike Kelly. The rehearsal dinner, hosted by the bridegroom’s dad, Greg Kilburn, featured a bonfire on the beach. Gay Kirby gave the bridesmaid’s luncheon at The Blue Maple.
Surprise ending: At the end of the wedding, the groom and his friends, all with the Denver Symphony Orchestra, played music on their trumpets.
Guests: Attending the festivities were guests from eight states. Among those from Oklahoma City were Chis Kelly, Brad Kelly, Pam Shdeed, Bill Shdeed, Linda Rodgers, Bill Rodgers, Lida Elkins, Ron Elkins, Anne Dalton, Ed Dalton, Gay Kirby, Ed Kirby, Carol Hall, David Wilson, Mary Ann Haskins, Don Haskins, Peggy Lunde, Marvin Lunde, Sharon Bozalis, John Bozalis, Laura Howell Terrill, Lela Sullivan and Mark Sullivan.
COLONIAL DAMES
Event: Peg Malloy, president of the Oklahoma Society, Colonial Dames of America, was hostess for the fall meeting. Joyce Stewart is a new member.
Agenda: Members discussed an upcoming Veterans Day event. The group will work with an Oklahoma City Girl Scout troop in creating a directory and directory stand for the Oklahoma Veterans Cemetery. Following the dedication of the stand, they will host a reception in the 45th Infantry Division Museum.
Seen: At the event were Adelaide Liedtke, Candy Ainsworth, Marilyn Case, Jane White, Susan McPherson, Ann Marshall, Patty Tague, Melissa Burget and Carol Solomon.
CATHEDRAL EXTRA!
Dedication: The Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 3214 N Lake, will have the dedication of the new altar and re-dedication of the Cathedral at 10 a.m. Nov. 16. The Catholic Cathedral has been under construction for the last six months. Archbishop Paul S. Coakley will preside with the Rev. John R. Metzinger, rector of Our Lady. Following the ceremony there will be a reception in Connor Center.
