Who will quarterback for TCU vs. Baylor?
TCU quarterbacks Max Duggan and Michael Collins both were injured in the waning minutes of a 34-27 loss at Oklahoma State last Saturday, and Horned Frog coach Gary Patterson was non-commital on their availability for the Baylor game this week.
The Frogs inserted Collins late after Duggan was injured, primarily because OSU had a 34-24 lead and TCU had to throw. Running quarterback Alex Delton, who played extensively early in the season, likely would be Patterson’s choice to quarterback against Baylor. But Patterson said Matthew Baldwin, a transfer from Ohio State, finally has been cleared to play and started throwing on Sunday.
“You don’t have any choice,” Patterson said. “Whoever you have to go to, you have to go to to win a ballgame. We’ll know more tomorrow. You only have x amount of quarterbacks.”
Duggan has turned into a solid quarterback as a true freshman. He had thrown just one interception all season before throwing three against OSU.
“He’s going to be a gutsy kid,” Patterson said. “Probably too many turnovers (vs. OSU). As a general rule, I think he keeps getting better.”
