STILLWATER — OSU coach Mike Gundy felt TCU’s primary adjustment to the absence of the Cowboys’ star receiver Tylan Wallace was to put more pressure on receivers near the line of scrimmage, rather than keeping safeties deeper in the secondary.

And ultimately, that might have benefited the Pokes and running back Chuba Hubbard.

When Wallace was playing, defenses typically played deeper safeties, with one sliding toward Wallace’s side of the field to provide some extra coverage. Without Wallace, who was lost for the season with a knee injury, TCU kept its defensive backs closer to the line of scrimmage.

“They pressed a little more than maybe they would’ve if Tylan were in the game,” Gundy said. “Could’ve helped us, because when that happened, that allowed some of Chuba’s runs, when he broke through, to go further, because there wasn’t much of a second level defense.

“I don’t think they would’ve changed structure, just maybe how they played on the outside receivers could have been an adjustment for them.”

Hubbard’s two back-breaking runs were 92- and 62-yard touchdowns when he split the middle of the defense and quickly got behind the TCU defenders.
