Did Kansas State play better against KU than against OU?
Kansas State routed Kansas 38-10 in the Sunflower Series last Saturday, and K-State coach Chris Klieman called it the Wildcats’ best game of the year.
Wait, what? A week earlier, Kansas State stunned Oklahoma 48-41. The ‘Cats played better against Kansas?
“I don’t know,” Klieman said of the 6-2 Wildcats. “I know we’re getting better. But I’m a big believer in whatever you did last week doesn’t matter this week. I don’t know if we’re a powerhouse, but we’ve played good football and better football.”
K-State plays at Texas on Saturday, then finishes with West Virginia, Texas Tech and Iowa State, with only Tech on the road. A 10-2 season seems possible.
“We’re still learning about our football team,” Klieman said. “We’re continuing to learn every day. I know one thing, to be successful, you need to be able to rush the football, need to be able to control time of possession – in our system, not every system is like that – and you need to be able to hold onto the football.”
KSU quarterback Skylar Thompson is rounding into form. After a big game against OU, Thompson turned into a running force against KU, with 127 yards on 17 carries.
