High school football: Choctaw's Gabe Johnson catches 4 touchdowns in win at Lawton

Gabe Johnson came up big when Choctaw needed a spark.

A senior receiver, Johnson caught a go-ahead score, one of his four touchdowns, to give the Yellowjackets a 41-35 victory at Lawton on Friday. Class 6A-II No. 7 Choctaw's win essentially eliminated the Wolverines from playoff contention while keeping its hopes alive to get back into the postseason.

Johnson, who also won the 2019 Class 6A 145-pound state wrestling title, finished with nine receptions for 205 yards and the four scores. Coach Jake Corbin said Johnson is someone who has shined this season.

"He's just special," Corbin said. "He's been so special when we need him."

Choctaw (5-3, 3-2 District 6A-II-1) faces another stout road test Friday when it travels to face Midwest City (3-5, 3-2). The loser won't be eliminated from playoff contention but a victory will be pivotal with only one game left after this week.
