TCU gets fired up for Texas

TCU is 5-2 against Texas since joining the Big 12 for the 2012 season. From 1960-1995, when both were in the Southwest Conference, the Horned Frogs were just 4-32 against the Longhorns.

TCU and UT play Saturday in Fort Worth, and the Frogs have been struggling. They are 3-3 and have beaten only Kansas in conference play. But they seem to always get ready for Texas.

Part of that is because Gary Patterson generally has a good team. Part of it is because most Texans want to beat Texas.

“Hopefully we’re just trying to win ballgames,” Patterson said. “But all kids, grow up in this state, everybody gives Texas their best game. I don’t think it’s just TCU. We’ve had some good players, and you can go along with the teams, which always helps win ballgames. I don’t think this year’s any different.

“Even the fans. Kids feed off the fans, and I think the fans all get up for this ballgame … so there’s some natural rivalry there. The kids feed off the natural emotion of everybody else.”
