Sam Ehlinger comes up big for Texas late against Kansas
Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger gathered his team around him a wild, 50-48 victory over Kansas and told them if they don’t believe in the way the Longhorns do things, they’re crazy.
Ehlinger drove Texas 60 yards in the final 1:11, setting up Cameron Dicker’s 33-yard field goal on the final play of the game. And as UT took the field for that final drive, the Longhorns kept saying, “Just like practice, just like practice, just like practice.”
Every Tuesday, coach Tom Herman said, the ‘Horns practice a two-minute drill in which it needs a field goal to win.
“There was no panic, no sense of, ‘Oh my gosh, what do we do?’” Herman said. “It was business as usual for him, because that’s the way we train.”
Led by Ehlinger. On that final drive, he completed five of seven passes for 57 yards, plus an eight-yard scramble for a first down. Ehlinger’s final numbers: 31 of 44 passing, 399 yards, four touchdowns, one interception.
