High school football: Blanchard tops Madill behind strong rushing performance, stifling defense
Blanchard coach Jeff Craig knows his team is young, but with experience, it's starting to gel.
Blanchard topped Madill 35-14 on Thursday behind a two-touchdown performance from Bryce Madron and a strong defensive effort, allowing only one completed pass. Madron had 10 carries for 122 yards and made all five of his extra-point attempts.
Lincoln Smith also scored two touchdowns, one on an 82-yard interception return in the third quarter. The other opened the scoring, as Colby Lankford hit Smith for a 41-yard touchdown pass.
Craig said it has been a rough few weeks for the Lions (3-4, 2-2 District 4A-2) battling injuries, but he credits how his underclassmen have stepped up.
"When you're young all ready, and those guys get hurt, then you're really young," Craig said. "Our guys have played hard and they're learning, getting better every week. It's a process."
The learning curve continues Friday, when Blanchard travels to face No. 2 Tuttle (6-1, 3-1).
