High school football: Davenport improves to 3-1 with win over Strother
Davenport got a wake-up call in its season opener.
The Bulldogs looked overmatched in a 32-28 loss to Weleetka. They knew it was going to be a long season if they didn’t make some adjustments.
Since then, Davenport has been a different team.
The fifth-ranked squad in Class B has won three straight games. Its latest triumph was a 59-0 win over Strother on Friday.
Davenport coach John Greenfield said his team improved on both sides of the ball after the season-opening loss.
“We’ve been real crisp with our defense and our running game those three weeks,” Greenfield said. “This past week, we got our passing game going a little bit.”
The Davenport offense has scored at least 48 points in each of the past three games.
The Bulldogs will have a tough test Friday when they host third-ranked Dewar (4-0).
