High school football: Midwest City forces 5 turnovers in win at Lawton
Midwest City got defensive for its first win of the season.
The Class 6A-II No. 9 Bombers opened district play with a 23-7 victory at then-No.7 Lawton. Midwest City forced five turnovers, four coming off interceptions and the fifth on a recovery of a muffed punt.
On offense, it also clicked. Running back Omari John had a career performance, rushing for 179 yards and two touchdowns. The Bombers started freshman quarterback DeAngelo Irvin Jr., who coach Darrell Hall said was impressive.
"We knew we had to play a complete game, and we played our best game of the year," Hall said.
