First, Texas Tech defensive lineman Eli Howard apologized for his low block on OU tailback Kennedy Brooks on Saturday in Norman. Then Tech coach Matt Wells apologized to OU coach Lincoln Riley at midfield.

But that wasn’t enough. Wells called Riley on Sunday to apologize again.

“It was a good conversation,” Wells said Monday on the Big 12 teleconference. “I think everybody has seen what Eli did (with his twitter apology). I respect what he did.”

Brooks was trying to make a tackle after a Tech interception and was blocked near the sideline by Howard. Brooks limped off the field and didn’t return to the game, but Riley said Brooks should be OK.

“That’s not who we want our program to be about,” Wells said. “That’s not who we are about. I’m glad Eli handled it right. With class. Not something we want as part of the game. That’s not who we play the game. We’ve done what we can to right it, by him but also by me.”
