High school football: Norman North beats Mustang for first win of season
Norman North (1-3) opened district play with its first win of the season, beating Mustang (2-2) 23-20.
It was a back and forth game that came down to the wire.
Norman North kicked a field goal to go up 23-14 late in the fourth quarter, but a quick score from Mustang made it 23-20. Mustang would get one more possession in the game, but an interception by Timberwolves’ corner Malachi Gatewood sealed the win for Norman North.
Running back Gabe Trevillison was a key for Norman North on offense. He rushed for 205 yards and two touchdowns. Coach Justin Jones said it started with a 63-yard touchdown run, and from there he just kept working to move the chains.
“Gabe was really the workhorse for us on offense last night,” Jones said.
Jones said he is proud of his team for getting the win. Norman North will continue district play next week as it takes on Moore (2-2) at home.
“That’s what district football is about,” Jones said. “Being 1-0 each week and having an opportunity to make the playoffs.”
