Texas defense suffers several injuries
Texas beat OSU 36-30 Saturday night, but it came at a cost. The Longhorns lost four defensive players to injury, including three starters.
Texas coach Tom Herman said Monday that safety Caden Sterns suffered a sprained leg ligament and will miss approximately four weeks, nickelback Josh Thompson suffered a broken foot and will miss “significant time” and cornerback Jalen Green suffered a dislocated shoulder and will miss at least four weeks. Also backup linebacker Marcus Tillman Jr. suffered a sprained knee that will require surgery and end his season.
“I gotta be honest, I haven’t lost a lot of sleep over it,” Herman said of the depth issues facing the Longhorns, who are off this week, play at West Virginia on October 5 and play OU in Dallas on October 12. “We trust the guys behind them.”
UT held up against the Cowboys, holding OSU to three touchdowns and three field goals and mostly containing tailback Chuba Hubbard and split end Tylan Wallace, who entered the game as the nation’s leading rusher and receiver, in yardage, respectively.
“Walking off the field, I was proud of how the defense played,” Herman said.
