Big 12 football has four new head coaches this season. Big 12 football also will have at least four new starting quarterbacks. Only three schools return both their coach and their quarterback.

Baylor, with Matt Rhule and Charlie Brewer; Iowa State, with Matt Campbell and Brock Purdy; and Texas, with Tom Herman and Sam Ehlinger.

Herman said such continuity gives him “all the comfort in the world. It’s very comforting, especially knowing it’s his (Ehlinger’s) third year in the same offensive system. He’s really grown in that system in knowing what to do and where to get the ball.

“It’s amazing to think I’m going into Year 3, and I believe I’m the fourth-longest tenured,” Herman said. “That should tell you something.”

Only TCU’s Gary Patterson, OSU’s Mike Gundy and Iowa State’s Matt Campbell are Big 12 coaches who have been on the job longer.
