PICTURE PERFECT
Dinner: A group of friends met at Jamil’s Restaurant for dinner and to unveil Clay Bennett’s image on a wall at the restaurant. Lee Allan Smith was host and Greg Gawey prepared the dinner for the group.
The canvas: Bennett’s image appears with those of Heisman trophy winners Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray. There are many other well-known Oklahoma athletes, politicians and entertainers’ images decorating the walls at the restaurant.
The composition: At Jamil’s were Tom McDaniel, Lincoln Riley, Joe Castiglione, Bob Stoops, Zac Selmon, Blake Wade, Barry Switzer, Jim Couch, Dick Ellis, Lee Allan Smith, and the man of the hour, Clay Bennett.
CAMPING OUT?
Camp Hupfeld: Suzie and Stan Hupfeld’s adult children and their spouses, and their grandchildren, arrived in Oklahoma City for Camp Hupfeld at the Hupfeld home. The week-long "camp" featured an opening ceremony, game day and outings.
The highlights: It was the 12th annual event for the group. Shari Hupfeld designed t-shirts for everyone. On game day, there was a cherry seed spitting contest, egg race, water balloon toss and scavenger hunt. One night the children and spouses went out to dinner and the Hupfelds stayed with the grandchildren. Another night, the original Hupfelds went out to dinner. They awarded the Brad Napoli trophy to whoever was kind and helpful and participated the best at camp. This year Travis and Turner Hupfeld were the winners.
Who came: At Camp Hupfeld were Shari, Matt, Travis and Turner Hupfeld, of Frisco, Texas; Kelly, Evan, Evie and Cami Merkur, of Parkland, Florida; and Kate, Patrick, Annie and Claire Halinski, of Fair Oaks, Texas.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JUDY
Party: Judy Austin celebrated her birthday with friends and family members. They gathered in her backyard, which was filled with flowers and has a koi pond. Entertainment was provided by Campbell Fields and trio.
Fragrant fare: “Savvy at 70” was theme for the event and centerpieces were fresh lavender plants with purple twinkle lights and lavender tablecloths.
How sweet it is: A two-tiered cake for Austin was decorated with purple flowers. There also was a cake for Campbell Fields (he had a birthday the day before) and one for Wendi Wilson (same day birthday). Cakes were by My Cake Friend. Catering was by Kam’s Kookery, and included smoked salmon, tenderloin and grilled vegetables.
NEW EXHIBIT
July must see: JRB Art at the Elms was the scene of an opening reception during Paseo’s First Friday Event in July. Rebecca Wheeler’s artwork called “Woman Revealed” was featured.
Flowers/food: A large floral bouquet from one of Wheeler’s artist friends in New York City was on the buffet table. Festive summer cocktails were served among with small plates of vegan sliders, cheese puffs, cole slaw and a spinach and truffle dip with blue corn chips.
People watching: Among those at the gallery were Carol Kaspereit, Don Kaspereit, Sandy Meyers, Aimee Harlow, David Harlow, John Yoeckel, Kelley Barnes, Harrison Smith, Linda Trippe, George Oswald, Mimi Smith, Betsy Berry, Nick Berry, Carl Archiniaco, Paige Lamberts, Mari Medley, Larry Pickering, John Brandenburg, Suzanne Silvester and Kitty Champlain.
JOINT BOARD MEETING
Event: The Oklahoma Art League joint board meeting was held in the home of Chris Ayers. Members had brunch and exchanged notebooks.
New officers: Sally Townley is the new president. Others are Catherine Armitage, president-elect; Jonna Kirschner, Elizabeth Wilson and Karen Stallings, vice-presidents; Louise Valuck and Henrie Close, secretaries; Jan Brown, treasurer; Denna Fo Holmes, parliamentarian, and Bonny Green, immediate past president.
