Nature & You: New Year's resolutions need not be impossible to accomplish
Resolutions need not be impossible
That conjures up an image of those padlock-and-key versions of notebooks that teenage girls use to record their innermost thoughts.
Please allow me to be so bold as to make a suggestion for your New Year's resolutions. I'd encourage you to do what I do — namely, to keep a journal. You might find it to be as fun an activity as do I.
To embark on this adventure, put a batch of index cards in a sandwich bag and carry them in the back pocket of your pants each and every day. You'll also need to make sure you always have a pen or pencil with you.
You are almost sure to realize that subject matter comes to you in a spontaneous fashion at all times of the day and night. What interesting observation did you make when you looked out upon the natural world? Jot it down. I like to make a special note of the day and date; 12 months from now, you can dive back into your detailed note-keeping, and this will alert you to be on the lookout for some upcoming natural events.
Let's you and I check back with each other at year's end to see if this is one New Year's promise with which you actually followed through.
