Add a little 'Cowboy Wisdom' to the Christmas stocking

"Cowboy Wisdom" compiled by Gerd De Ley (Hatherleigh Press, 104 pages, in stores)

Need a last-minute stocking stuffer for an Old West fan on your list?

The new book, “Cowboy Wisdom,” which went on sale Tuesday, would be perfect, especially for that grandfather or dad fond of sharing their so-called wisdom whether you like it or not.

It's a small book that contains more than 200 quotes about the Old West that will fit nicely in anyone's Christmas stocking.

The quotes in it come from the likes of John Wayne (of course), Baxter Black (a real cowboy poet) and Will Rogers (Oklahoma's favorite son), among others.

There are even quotes from real Old West figures like Wild Bill Hickok and real rodeo cowboys like the late Lane Frost, also an Oklahoman.

The guy whose wisdom is featured most in the book is author Texas Bix Bender. He provides such jewels as “never sit on a barbed wire fence naked” and “always walk, talk and keep your head up, unless you're walkin' in a cow pasture.”

Words to live by.
