Living Coral, Pantone’s 2019 Color of the Year

Every year, Pantone Color Institute announces its color of the year.

For 2019, it’s Living Coral, described as emitting the desired, familiar and energizing aspects of color found in nature.

“An animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge,” says the company on its website.

Pantone said it symbolizes an innate need for optimism and joyful pursuits as well as embodies a desire for playful expression.

The nurturing color is said to be a reaction to the never-ending digital technology and social media that is invading daily life. As a result, there’s a desire to seek authentic and immersive experiences that allow for connection and intimacy.

“Color is an equalizing lens through which we experience our natural and digital realities, and this is particularly true for Living Coral,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. “With consumers craving human interaction and social connection, the humanizing and heartening qualities displayed by the convivial Pantone Living Coral hit a responsive chord.”

Since 2000, Pantone has introduced a special hue that tries to capture the mood of the country and thus becomes seen in fashion, beauty, home décor and product design.
