Board of ed member Dan Keating died Saturday

State Board of Education member Daniel Keating passed away Saturday. He was 74. 

Keating was appointed to the state Board of Education in 2013 and is the brother of former Oklahoma governor Frank Keating. 

"This is heartbreaking news. Dan Keating was a strong, passionate and committed State Board member who cared deeply about improving the education of Oklahoma schoolchildren," State Superintendent Joy Hofmeister said in a statement on Saturday. "He served with honor and distinction. On a personal level, Dan was a kind and congenial friend who always had words of encouragement. My prayers are with his wife Kathy, their children and their extended family.”

The state Department of Education said Keating died in Tulsa.
