Nikki Nice loses radio job a day after winning election

New Ward 7 Councilwoman Nikki Nice was sworn in Tuesday, taking office in time to interview city manager candidates at next Monday’s special meeting.
Nice, 38, won with 71.8 percent of the vote in the Nov. 6 special Ward 7 runoff election, after leading the Aug. 28 primary field. Monday’s previously scheduled swearing-in ceremony will be a formality.
Nice was sworn in by City Clerk Frances Kersey. Nice is to serve the unexpired term of John A. Pettis Jr., who resigned. Her term runs until 2021.
She had to officially assume office in order to receive and review documents related to Monday’s interviews, which will begin at 9:30 a.m. and are expected to last all day.
The city council is choosing a successor to Jim Couch, who is retiring effective Jan. 2. Couch has bee city manager 18 years.
