SEPTEMBER BIRTHDAYS
Party: Friends who celebrate September birthdays got together for a party in the home of Camilla Ostrowe. Co-hostesses were Marsha Funk, Dee Harris, Anne Henderson, Kanela Huff and Becky McCubbin.
The buffet table: Appetizers and birthday cake were served and the table was decorated with white hydrangeas and orchids.
The buzz: All conversations began with “Happy Birthday!”
IN HONOR OF THE PRESIDENT
Housewarming party: Martha Burger, Oklahoma City University president, was the honoree at a housewarming party in her home at Wilson House on the OCU campus. Burger is OCU's 18th president and first female president.
Hostesses: OCU female trustees and trustee's wives were hostesses for the event.
Food/flowers: The food was catered by the university caterer, Chartwells Dining Services, and included mini-quiches with apples, cheese and cinnamon, watermelon and mozzarella skewers, seasonal fruit tartlets. Flower arrangements were blue hydrangeas, the president's favorite flowers.
Guests: 60 people attended the party, including Debbie Hite, Lou Kerr, Tricia Everest, Teresa Rose Crook, Leslie Ogle, Jeanne Hoffman Smith, Cindy Batt, Toni Parks-Payne, Susan Harroz and Jennifer Grigsby.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CAROLYN
Bueno birthday: Carolyn Shannon celebrated her birthday with friends and family at La Luna Mexican Cantina and Grill. Guests toasted her with festive frozen margaritas.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CONNIE
Celebration: Connie Mashburn celebrated her 80th birthday with her Birthday Club friends who have been celebrating together for 40 years. Lana Elliott was hostess in her Rivendell home.
Menu: Fresh salmon on crystal platters was served, along with shrimp, chicken salad sandwiches, fruit and cheese and chocolate cake (Connie's favorite) with tall birthday candles. Guests gave a Champagne toast to the honoree. Flower bouquets from Howard Brothers Florist were set throughout the home.
Club notes: Members usually meet at a restaurant and bring $5 and birthday cards. The 16 original members used to bring bottles of wine, but decided carrying 16 bottles of wine home was hard to do.
PI PHI ALUMS GET TOGETHER
Dinner/fashion: The first meeting of the year of the Oklahoma City Pi Beta Phi Alumnae Club was held at Sanctuarie. Members had a light dinner and style show with members modeling Worth New York and W by Worth Fall looks. Cindi Shelby did commentary and spoke about the trends of the season.
School needs: School supplies were collected for donating to local schools.
MUSIC AND THE MAESTRO
Occasion: The Oklahoma City Orchestra League met for a meeting at the Will Rogers Theater Event Center. Maestro Alexander Mickelthwate was the special guest speaker. He talked about his introduction to music.
Epic Evening plans: Each table featured an invitation to the Maestro's Ball, which will celebrate the league's 70th anniversary. The event is set for Oct. 26 at the Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club.
FALL TEA
Membership tea: Members of the Samuel King Chapter of the Oklahoma Daughters of the American Revolution met for the Fall Membership Tea at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Edmond.
Program: Oklahoma State Regent Sue Allen talked about her state regent's project “Harvesting for Veterans.”
Buffet: On the menu were tea sandwiches, DAR sugar cookies and appetizers. Tables featured centerpieces with antique tea pots.
