Anyone who has driven in downtown Oklahoma City the past few years knows it's been at best, an exercise in soul crushing frustration.
From the streetcar project, to Project 180 and endless lane closures by private contractors working on infrastructure, it's been a long haul for everyone. But things are slowly improving. The Oklahoman's Bill Crum brings news of progress. Cue Handel's Messiah.
Downtown Oklahoma City commuters are getting more relief.
The Oklahoma City Boulevard between Robinson and Hudson avenues opened to traffic Wednesday, about two weeks after the section between E.K. Gaylord Boulevard and Robinson Avenue opened.
These sections are part of the $27 million portion of the boulevard construction project through the heart of an area poised for significant development over the next five years.
The sections opened so far pass by the site of Omni's convention center hotel and the MAPS 3 downtown park that is under construction, and parallel for two blocks the streetcar tracks.
By mid-2019, the boulevard is expected to be open from Gaylord to Western Avenue. The MAPS 3 streetcar will be running and the park will be open, or close to it.
