Are scooters allowed in the Myriad Gardens?
Leslie Spears addressed the popular electric scooters that appeared in downtown Oklahoma City last week and how they are to be handled within the Myriad Gardens area. Spears, Myriad Botanical Gardens Director of Public Relations & Marketing, appeared in The Oklahoman's studios on Tuesday. Watch the full interview in the video above.
Spears said their policy is about safety. All bicycles must be walked through the Myriad Gardens. Roller blading is not allowed. And the riding of electric scooters is also not allowed.
As our Steve Lackmeyer outlined in his column today, Bird released several dozen scooters in Oklahoma City last week. Many residents downloaded the Bird app, which controls access to the electric scooters, and soon scooters were seen on sidewalks and streets throughout the urban core.

That led to a discussion of where the scooters should legally be driven - sidewalks, streets, bike lanes? Oklahoma City is reviewing the issue.
Spears said the Myriad Gardens is awaiting city policy as well.
In the meantime, Spears outlined various other activities upcoming in the Myriad Gardens which include the popular Cat Video Festival (Caturday, August 18) and the Full Moon Bike Ride and Run (August 27). Spears said events such as the bike ride means some adjustments to their guidelines.
The carousel that has been relocated from Plaza Mayor to the Myriad Gardens is set to open soon, perhaps in late August.
