Outdoor Nation Expo opens Friday in Shawnee

More than 150 booths and attractions will be on display during the Outdoor Nation Expo Friday through Sunday at Firelake Arena in Shawnee.

The expo will feature a fishing derby and archery contest for kids along with displays of the latest hunting and fishing gear.

Admission is free. Expo hours are 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday.

The Oklahoma State Turkey Calling Championships will be Saturday during the expo. Registration is from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. with the calling contests beginning at 11 am. More than $5,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded

Sponsored by the Oklahoma chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, there will be champions crowned in open, friction, state, novice and youth divisions.

Winners in the state, friction and open division qualify to the national championship in Nashville, Tennessee, in February.

NWTF to hold "Gun Bash" Saturday night

The National Wild Turkey Federation's annual “Gun Bash” will be at 6 p.m. Saturday in the Grand Casino Resort in Shawnee.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. There will be a raffle and games with guns and hunting trips as prizes. At least 30 guns will be given away.

Deadline nears for bonus youth deer hunts

The deadline to apply for the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation's bonus youth deer hunts this hunting season is Aug. 15.

The anterless deer hunts in Ellis County and Love County are scheduled in October and December. The hunts are open to hunters ages 12 through 17.

Quail Forever to hold OKC banquet Aug. 18

The Central Oklahoma 89er Chapter of Quail Forever will hold its 13th annual fundraising banquet Aug. 18 at Embassy Suites in Oklahoma City, 1815 S Meridian.
