New garden area
Event: A new garden area called The Tanenbaum Reflection Garden was dedicated at the Myriad Botanical Gardens. This new garden is located on the north side of the pedestrian bridge and features a stone terrace with a bench and a stone water fountain.
Speakers: Speaking at the dedication were Maureen Heffernan, Jim Tolbert, Nate Tschaenn and Joe Pierce.
Major supporters: Besides the Tanenbaums, additional help for the garden was from Oklahoma City Community Foundation, Kirkpatrick Family Fund and the City of Oklahoma City Water Conservation Program.
J-students reunion
Luncheon: Former John Marshall High School students of Louanne Ward Trueblood met for a reunion at Johnnie's Restaurant. The members of the yearbook and newspaper staffs talked about their high school days as they looked at newspapers and yearbooks published from 1968-1979.
Fundraising: Attendees contributed to a fund to buy school supplies for John Marshall High School.
Honoring Christina
Bridal shower: Christina Ellis was the honoree at a bridal shower in the home of Seyan Hefner. Hostesses were Cindy Biddinger, Julie Hall, Hefner, Kym Mason and Mary Wolf. Christina and Nick Francis will be married in August.
Flowers: Tables were decorated with silver vases filled with pink roses, lilies, hydrangeas and ranunculus.
Special gift: The hostesses gave the honoree a white and gold table top bowl.
Guests: Among those at the party were Linda Boyce, Diane Sanger, Brittany Sanger, Sarah Sanger, Mary Dahlgren, Kristin Dahlgren, Nancy Ellis, Sandy Ellis, DeAnn Harris, Amber Hennigan, Carolyn Higganbotham, Judy Sellmyer, Leslie Young, Karen Killam, Patsy Homsey and Sheri Van Hooser.
Send-off party
Occasion: Tucker Hill, 2018 McGuinness salutatorian, was honored at a party given by his parents, Shannon and David Hill, in their home. He will be attending Princeton University in the fall on an Army ROTC scholarship.
Food: Gerry Reardon, of El Toro Chino, was the caterer.
Guests: Among the party guests were Suzanne and Rob Reynolds, Carla and Matt Britt, Kim and Chet Collier, Cathy and Lane Tompkins, Marc Weitzel, Kim Weitzel, Dee and John Harris, Jennifer and Brian Maxwell, Lauren Hill, Katherine Hill, Ashley Hill, and John Garvey.
A little family history: Tucker is the third son of the couple's six children (three girls and three boys). Oldest son 1 Lt. David Hill Jr. is a 2012 McGuinness graduate and a 2016 West Point graduate currently serving as a Blackhawk pilot in Alaska. Another son, Hunter Hill, is a 2016 McGuinness graduate and junior at The United States Military Academy at West Point. The daughters: Lauren is a 2018 graduate of the University of Notre Dame and is a business technology analyst for Deloitte in Chicago; Katherine and Ashley are a freshman and a junior at McGuinness.
Passing the gavel
Occasion: The Oklahoma City Orchestra League met at Lincoln Park Golf Course Club House for a meeting and to recognize the board of directors.
The president's gavel was given to new president Wendi Wilson by outgoing president Carol McCoy. Wilson gave McCoy a cutting board as a gift from the group.
Food/entertainment: On the menu were pork tenderloins, grilled vegetables, various cheeses, wine and lemon squares, brownies and pecan pie triangles catered by Susie Booth. Past music competition winner Sam Kahre provided music on the cello.
