No 'Stranger' to SoonerCon, artist Jerry Bennett returns with new card project
Oklahoma City artist Jerry Bennett is a featured guest at this weekend's SoonerCon in Midwest City, where he's also created the art for the convention's official T-shirt and will have a limited SoonerCon 27 print for sale.
Perhaps the biggest news Bennett shared in advance of the show was that he has been signed on to provide sketchcards for a new Topps card license: "Stranger Things," based on the Netflix original TV show.
"'Stranger Things' was a fresh take on classic 80’s pop culture elements, and being a kid raised in the 80’s, it knew how to grab ahold of me," Bennett said. "I’m simply trying to capture the emotions in the expressions of the characters, which is why I usually do a lot of close-ups of their faces."
Previously, Bennett has created sketch cards for Star Wars, Mystery Science Theater 3000, Marvel and The Walking Dead.
And Bennett has even more high-profile gigs in the works, though he wasn't at liberty to disclose the properties as yet. However, if you want to see a Bennett original, he announced he will have several pen-and-ink pieces in the Friday evening art show.
Check out Jerry's full schedule at the SoonerCon site.
SoonerCon will be held June 22-24 at the Reed Conference Center in Midwest City.
