The Morning Brew: Bricktown building gets new look; Trump, Kim meet

DOwntown OKC building to get fresh look

For the first time in decades, windows are bringing daylight into the upper floors of the former Spaghetti Warehouse, a restoration that is sure to make the landmark building a more important anchor to the 120-year-old warehouse district.

The job isn't easy. The 216 window openings on the second through sixth floors were filled with bricks more than 50 years ago. Out-of-state owners long rebuffed pitches by developers to partner with them or buy the building to bring the entire warehouse back to life.

Ultimately, the closing of the Spaghetti Warehouse, which had kicked off the transformation of the faded industrial district into the state's premier urban entertainment destination, led to the building being put up for sale in 2016.

Restoration of windows on the six-story, century-old building marks the first visible step of bringing the building back to life. Sam Coury and Danny Wright bought the one-time furniture warehouse from a real estate investment trust last year for $3.8 million.

They are in talks with restaurant operators for the first floor and are looking at a mix of offices and either a hotel or housing for the upper floors.

The two men -- both intent on making history -- greeted each other with extended hands in front of a row of US and North Korean flags, a previously unthinkable sight that reflects a new chapter in the two countries' acrimonious relationship.
