Oklahoma City Council adopts $1.57 billion budget, new fiscal year begins July 1

The Oklahoma City Council on Tuesday adopted a record $1.57 billion budget for 2018-19 fiscal year beginning July 1.

The council also awarded a $168.2 million construction contract to Flintco LLC to build MAPS 3 convention center.

City Manager Jim Couch said the nearly $300 million convention center is the single-largest construction project in city history.

The budget includes full-year funding -- from the quarter-cent sales tax increase approved by voters last year -- for 189 police and fire positions.
