The Morning Brew: Louie's shooting victims recovering at home

Victims still recovering 

It's been one week since an Oklahoma City man walked into Louie's at Lake Hefner and shot three people, before being mortally wounded. The victims -- Syniah Giles, 12, Alex Speegle, 15, and Natalie Giles, 39, are all on the mend at home. From The Oklahoman's Matt Dinger: 

All three victims in the shooting at Louie's on Lake Hefner are at home recovering from their wounds.

Syniah Giles, 12, was released from Children's Hospital at OU Medical Center on Tuesday night, grandfather Dennis Will said Wednesday.

A bullet went into her tailbone and traveled into the left side of her stomach, Will said.

They removed 2 to 3 inches of the girl's colon and repaired some holes in her upper and lower bowels, he said.

"She really hasn't taken to the solid foods yet without nausea," Will said.

Alex Speegle, 15, has also been released from the hospital. She was shot in the shoulder, and the bullet broke her arm, Will said.

She will have to have nerve damage repair surgery in the future, he said.

"She's got metal in her shoulder going all the way down her arm," Will said.

His daughter and Syniah Giles' mother, Natalie Giles, 39, was grazed on her arm and left breast by bullets. She was treated and released from the hospital the night of the shooting, Will said.

Syniah Giles will continue to recover at her Mustang home, he said. It's unclear what physical therapy or rehabilitation she may have to undergo, but doctors have told the family that she may have complications due to internal scarring in the future, he said.

Alexander Tilghman, 28, was shot and killed by bystanders after he approached the restaurant and opened fire on patrons outside the evening of May 24.
