CELEBRATING THE BORENS!
Tribute and celebration: University of Oklahoma President David L. Boren and his wife, Molly Shi Boren, were honored and toasted for OU outstanding leadership at a Celebration Dinner at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center. OU Vice President Clarke Stroud gave the welcome and toast to the couple. The OU Band arrived for a rendition of "Boomer Sooner" and Skye Singleton led the OU Chant.
Speaker: Author and historian David McCullough spoke on the legacy of Boren Leadership at OU as 1,700 gathered for the grand occasion. “Boren has given 51 years of public service and changed countless lives," McCullough noted. “He has been greatly encouraged by Molly,” he added. "His most admirable quality is his sincerity in forgiving other people. He forgives and moves on.” To me, what stands out is that David has maintained a prominent role in the classroom. Teachers are among the most important people among us. They are doing the work that matters. David has faith in education and following his retirement he will continue teaching. Bravo, David,” he said.
In response: The president noted the people in the room and what they have meant to him and Molly. “Education has changed our lives and you have been such a part of it. We're all here to take a bow.
